Tax Forms Tax forms are used by taxpayers and organizations to report income and calculate taxes owed to the IRS. The tax form most people are familiar with is Form 1040, the U.S. Individual Income Tax Return. Form 1040 is the starting form for individual federal income tax returns and the majority of people must file one each year. Form 1040A is a simplified version of the Form 1040 and is used for taxpayers with uncomplicated tax situations, i.e. no itemized deductions.
